Clue #9 is the Piano Man, Billy Joel!

I selected the Piano Man, Billy Joel, for my #9 Star.  The Billy Joel Star!

In 1999, Billy Joel was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  It was stated in his induction, “Billy Joel gives irrefutable proof that piano is a rock and roll instrument.  After a stint as a lounge pianist, Billy Joel broke into the mainstream with his signature ballads followed up by anthems about everything from a disenchanting music industry to the contentious political climate.”

Born William Martin Joel is an American singer, pianist and songwriter who is commonly nicknamed the “Piano Man” after his signature song of the same name.  Billy Joel released his first album, “Cold Spring Harbor”, in 1971; followed by his second album “Piano Man” in 1973.  He since released 10 more pop and rock studio albums from 1971 to 1993, and one studio album of classical compositions in 2001.  He is one of the best-selling music artists of all time and is the seventh best-selling recording artist and the fourth-best-selling solo artist in the United States, with over 160 million records sold worldwide. His 1985 compilation album, Greatest Hits Vol. 1 & 2, is one of the best-selling albums in the United States.

While popular still to this day, the “Piano Man” only hit No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 list.  He landed his first No. 1 in July 1980 with “It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me.” He proceeded to have 13 Top 10 hits and 25 Top 25 hits.

If I had to pick a favorite, it would be “Uptown Girl” as it takes me back to my early high school years.  However, while designing this block, my inspiration came from the “Piano Man”, more him than the song.  The Nine-Patches symbolize piano keys in my mind.

The new unit to the series is Unit D- The 9-Patch.  This unit is not oversized and cut down, so you want to be very careful to use your best 1/4" seam.
For Block Construction, once again, we are putting it together Corner Unit first.
Then, Column.
It comes together very nicely!  Love it.
So Tada!
So, what do you think of the #9 clue, the Billy Joel Star?

Keep stitching,
