It is time to kick off my annual Holiday Medallion Mystery Series!  This year's mystery is Holiday Solstice.  Are you ready to get started?    Today I'm revealing Clue #1 - Block 1 - Ting-A-Ling-Ling.  It is actually a Square Cubed (Square-in-a-Square-in-a-Square), however I given it a fun name for this series.  You will be using the Square Squared for this Clue. Here are both my versions.  Below I'm going to talk you through why I selected the fabric I did, to help you pick the ones for your quilt. Vivacious ~ Timeless with a Twist ~ By Michelle Renee Hiatt This Quilt Setting uses any thirty (30) Timeless with a Twist Blocks and is a Queen Size quilt (90" x 105").   You will make  Cornerstones and Sashing with V Block and (Newer) Square²   (Or Large Square Squared ).

Block 38, Victory Gardens, by Nancy Page, was published in Birmingham News, on May 25, 1943.  Block 38 ~ Victory Gardens ~ Michelle's Fabric Selection 1 This block is made up of Diamond Rectangles. Square-in-a-Square-in-a-Square (Square³ or Stacked Squares) and Half Square Triangles.  Nancy Page was quoted on the same page as stating, “ Nancy… isn’t this going to be quite a good deal of work?  I think it is.  Perhaps that is why I called it a Victory Garden.  Those gardens are going to be work too.  If we don’t waste the seeds which we sow we are going to have to put in many hours of work.  But the results will justify the hard work we hope.  And that’s the way I feel about this pattern. The results when the quilt top is all pieced and set together ought to justify the time used in putting it together ”. 

Yeah, I made it to Maine!  My third straight week on the road.  Block 26 is Magic Box! Block 26 ~ Magic Box ~ Michelle's Fabric Selection 1 Block 26, Mirror Box, by Nancy Page, was published in Birmingham News, on December 10, 1940.  This block is made up of a Square-in-a-Square-in-a-Square (Square³ or Stacked Squares) and Half Square Triangles.  In my research, I found this same block to be referred to as Triangles and Stripes in 1897 in the Ladies Art Company Catalog.  Additionally, I found this same block in a July 1941 clipping of the Birmingham News, crediting the block again to Nancy Page, however calling it Squares and Strips.  The appearance of the block can change dramatically by changing the value placement, which could result in the block appearing more like a box, triangles or squares. Woohoo! Block 12!  We are a quarter of the way through Timeless with a Twist.  Block 12, Nameless, by Clara Stone, was published in Practical Needlework, in 1906. Yes, that is correct, the block is known as Nameless.  There was no name associated at the time of publication and therefore Quilt Historians have taken to calling the block Nameless.  Block 12 - Nameless  Nameless is believed to be the foundation for later blocks, most notably; Crown of Thrones, Finley 1929, Forest Trails, Laura Wheeler, 1933, and Beacon Lights, Nancy Page, 1936.   Each of those blocks use the same block design, however the value placement is often changed.  Additionally, the block has one more subdivision, typically splitting the unit formed between Nameless’ quarter square triangles.  We are going to take our Square-in-a-Square techniques to another level and make Square cubed, or Stacked Squares .  This technique comes together easily with ...
