Can you believe we are 75% through the blocks!    Crazy!  Crazy winds here in CT today too! Block 36 is California Sunset!  Such a find!  Love it!  This one is going to test all the skills you've learned over the last few months, but it will be worth it! California Sunset was published in the Chicago Tribune, on December 5, 1933 and credit to Nancy Cabot. This is a spectacular block and unique, as this clipping is the first time I’ve seen this block, and I love it.  I searched extensively, and I could not find this block known as anything else.  The block’s corners units, with the Split Rects , are similar to Dutch Tulip.  However, the Corner Beam units replace the one-patch units in Dutch Tulip.  The Peaky and Spike ( V block ) units really make this block exploded.   I think California Sunset is very appropriate name for this wonderful block.  I have big plans for this block in the Timeless with a Twist Book ser...

Well, I think Block 22 will be worth the wait!  It is the  St. Louis Star, published by Clara Stone in Practical Needlework , 1906.   This block is very eye-catching with its popped V Peaky and Spike (V Block) units, Corner Beams and Square-in-Square.  It has such movement.   A similar block was published by Jinny Beyer, in 1980, in the Quilter’s Album.  Jinny called the block the California Sunset.  Which I think is a terrific name for this block.  The only difference is that Jinny used a 30° angle for the secondary star, instead of the 45°angle used in this St. Louis Star.  Additionally, I found several different blocks referred to as the St. Louis Star, many of them completely different.  This one was my favorite of them, by far!  Love it! Whew!  What a few days.  I'm getting ready for probably the busiest 7 weeks of the year.  So, apologies, I'm a little late today. This week's block is fabulous.  It is Peony and Forget Me Nots, published by Nancy Cabot in the Chicago Tribune, November 19, 1936.    This block is very striking with its non-mirror combination units, stepping patches, and popped rectangles. Block 21~ Forget Me Not ~ Fabric Selection 1  I’ve never seen this block, however I found a block that was similar, published as Double Astor.   It was also credited to Nancy Cabot, just a week before on November 12, 1936.  However, it was missing the 12 patches stepping through the corners, which I think makes this block. Maybe it was part of a building technique series.  One can hope!
