Are you ready for a Block?

For Glorious Splendor Clue #11 we are back to making Blocks, and this is a fabulous one.  Glorious Blossom is a terrific block and a great example of how you can take basic units and with a "pop" or two and splitting another unit you can take a block up a notch!  Love the like "sun" formed in the center, or in my head the center of a Blossom!

A couple weeks ago, I instructed you to take a fresh look at your first 6 blocks and evaluate the fabric you have left.  So, I tried to introduce a few new fabrics in my Paisley Rose, while in my Bermuda Batiks, I elected to go with using up a few of my fabrics in my fabric selection.  Either approach will work, just always be mindful of what fabric you have left, especially if you are making your own fabric selections.

The basic units that we are making, we made before, but now we are going to take them to a new level.

Construction tips!

For your Popped Corner Beam, you will make a Corner Beam first. It is a funky size, so pay attention during construction.
You will want to trim it to the proper size before "popping".
To "pop" the Corner Beam, make sure you have the unit in the proper position, the correction measurement and use your best cutting skills so that you make an accurate cut.

Make sure to sew with your "popped" Corner Beam on top.
Once sewn, take your time to make sure the unit remains the proper size and that the seam line, lines up properly.

You should be only trimming the replacement triangle.

Tada!
Next, you will make a tri-colored Quarter Square Triangle.  Be sure to mark and match the proper pairings.
Once sewn, cut and press.  Then pair them up properly again.
You will trim them per usual.
Then it is time to split off.   Make sure to triple check the instructions and diagrams prior to cutting.  A miss cut could lead to remaking the whole unit. .

Next, we will pop Squares, prior to making a four-patch center.

Take time to find the proper size to pop, it is different than in Unit A  Use your best cutting skills to ensure you are keeping the unit the proper size.

Right Handed
Always sew with the main unit on top.
Press towards the replacement and trim, ensuring the unit stays the proper size.
Then, we are going to put them together into a Four-Patch Center
Block Construction - I recommend marking your Split Quarter Square Triangles and your Center with the quarter inch at the seams that need to line up. Lay them out carefully
With those quarter inch markings, perform precession pinning.

Once your have your rows together, precession pin with those markings, as well as take care of those open seams.
How tada is this Block!

I love this block, I hope you do too.  It really shows how a little pop and split can make basic units "pop".

Stephen and I are off for a week of R&R, much needed after the last few weeks... who am I kidding after the last few months.   Don't worry, Clue #12 will still be released next week, but my shop will be on delayed shipping.  Any orders received over the next week, will be shipped on Monday, June 27th.

Have a great week, I can't wait to see your blocks!

Keep Stitching,
Michelle
