Almost to the finish line... Clue #17 is Twisted Wedge

Almost to the finish line, we are at Clue #17 and it is the Twisted Wedge Star.  Thank you for your patience as I recover from surgery.

This is a fabulous technique, there is a Twisted Wedge Technique Sheet if you are interested in making this block in different sizes. For this week's block, I've given you everything you need to know in the Clue.  Along with great tips below.

Clue #17 Twisted Wedge Star!

Let's talk fabric selection.
Starflower Christmas Fabric Selection

Kaffe Fabric Selection
Alternatively, you could use the these other fabrics (below).  Ideally you want to use a Pink, Blue, Yellow (Triadic Color Plan) for your Kaffe version.  I know some of you have used fabrics from my Kaffe Selection, substituted them for other fabrics in early blocks, so I'm offering you a substitute that I think can work.
Take you time trimming your Strips, Strips #1 and #2 are different sizes.   Make sure you place them properly, do the offset and stitch.

Be very careful pressing these strip sets as you need them to be straight and not stretched.
Pay close attention to the sub cutting instructions as it matters which way you place your strip sets.

Left Handed Quilters have Right sides UP with Medium strip away from them.

Right Handed Quilters have Right Sides DOWN with Medium strip away from them.
Right Handed setting the Angle
Left Handed setting the Angle

Take your time when placing the Diamond between the Small Wedges, you want the Medium point between the Wedges.

From here on, it is pretty much the same steps as previous Wedge Star blocks.
Sew with the Diamond on top
Sew on the left Small Wedge and then trim that Dog Ear.

Then sew on the other Small Wedge, again with the Diamond on top.

Next, it is time to trim your Twisted Diamond Wedges.

Next, we are going to put them into Quarters
Take the time to pin .... it makes a difference.
Then, trim the dog ears with the Tucker Trimmer- Only trim what you need to trim.

Dog Ears plus whiskers!

Left Handed

Now, sew them into halves.
Pin, pin, pin!
Now, let's make the Octagon.
Precision pin that center.
Awesome, give it a nice press.
Be careful, now you want to trim every other Twisted Diamonds, just the ones that will go into the corners.

The trimmed Twisted Diamonds get the the Corner Triangles.
Press toward the Corner Triangles.
Next, use your Tucker Trimmer to trim them to perfection!

TADA!!!   Love them!

Only one Clue left!  Thank you all for you patience as I recover from surgery!  Next week's Clue #18 will be released on Sunday, December 26th.

Have a wonderful and safe holiday with your family and friends.

Keep stitching,
Michelle
