Clue #6 is Seymour Gathering and dedicated to all those who have taken classes and retreats with me at The Yankee Quilter, in Seymour, CT. This Block has a new Unit to the series, the Popped V Block where we will pop a V Block unit.
Some history on the Block - I moved to CT in 2013 and began teaching at The Yankee Quilter, in Seymour CT. It was fate. I walked into the shop to ask about teaching, explaining that I was a Certified Instructor for Studio 180 Design, designed patterns/Technique Building Series, and stated I’d be interested in teaching at their shop. I was taken back to the shop owner Cheryl, who held up a sticky note that said, “get Deb Tucker rulers.”
The rest is history! The Yankee Quilter (TYQ) is my local quilt shop! I used to teach at TYQ monthly until my travel schedule became so hectic. Now, I teach three-four Sleep in Your Bed (SIYB) retreats a year at the TYQ, where most Quilters are local and go home to sleep in their own bed. We have some out of towners that stay at hotels. We start on Friday and go through Sunday afternoon, sewing away, only leaving at 8pm to return the next morning at 8am. We enjoy the retreat-like activities and have a blast! I love my CT gang and look forward to every SIYB retreat!
In addition to our block, you have a homework assignment, where we are making (72) Popped V Block Units (note: different size than we make in the block. Now, deep breath, you have the remainder of the Mystery to get them finished. However, I would perform your cutting, so that you can leverage the remnants for the rest of your Clues.
Before we get into fabric selection. Just a reminder that I'm going LIVE on Tuesday, October 4th, at 6pm EDT to share my fabric selection and an overview on the my next Mystery, Heart of Rock & Roll, which will start mid-January.
Let's talk fabric selection: You will need (6) fabric in addition to your Background.

Cheer & Merriment - Stitched Fabric selections |
Note: I recommend using the same Fabrics as used in Clue #5, Unit C, noting the reversal of the Dark and Medium II placement (or similar).
Take your time with cutting, but it is pretty straight forward.
Let's talk tips:
Unit A- Popped V Block - We are going to make the V Block per usual.
Go ahead and trim it.
Then, it is time to "pop" the wide end of the V Block.
It is important to do this side at a time. Pop and replace. Making sure that the Replacement Triangle is on the bottom.
Next, we will trim the unit back to the proper size. Take time to line up properly. You should only be trimming the Replacement Triangle.

Time to trim down. Make sure you take your time to line up with the proper size and lines. You should only be trimming the Replacement Triangle.

So Tada! Love this unit! Guess you can tell since I have you doing it for homework.

Popped V Block |
Unit B - We are making the same unit as in Clue #5, but reversing our fabrics on that popped corner. Which changes which fabric we use to make the HST.
Make your Half Square Units per usual.
Then we are going to pop that Medium II.
Replace, so with the unit on top
Such goodness!
Unit C - We've made this unit a couple of times now, so just remember to cut down the center with the Square Squared prior to sewing on the Side Triangles.
So tada!
Block Construction
This block comes together pretty easily. I would suggest precision pinning where the Popped V Block meets the Square-in-Square to ensure that your points match.

Sew into rows and then into the Block.
Love it!

What do you think? How are you enjoying this Mystery?
Here are some tips for your Homework:
We are making the same unit as Clue #6, Unit A, but it finishes at a different size.
Gather your Bag #1 and #2 from Clue #1. Perform the cutting following the Clue #6 Homework. I suggest you cut right away, so that you can use the remnants in your blocks.
