Liberty Lemoyne for Clue #9

We are at our midpoint of the Mystery and Clue #9 is Liberty Lemoyne Star!

I featured it in Liberty Court, a pattern I released late last year, which features Liberty Lemoyne Stars with Court House Steps. You can purchase the pattern in my Etsy shop..  Liberty Court is one of the patterns being offered at our Rangeley Fall Quilt Camp.  Make sure to check out our progress on my Facebook page

Several of you have asked about attending Rangeley Fall Quilt Camp next year.  Those that are here this year have first rights to their spots.  Then, it is opened to the public for sign-up.  If there are open spots they will be announced in next week's newsletter.

Clue #9 - Liberty Court is a block that you are going to want to take your time with and follow the steps closely.  Below I have a few tips and reminders.

You will want to select fabric that reads more as a solid but has some interest.

This, of course, is a little more difficult with my Kaffe seclection but totally doable.
Be very carefully cutting your Strips, as they are pretty thin.  Take your time.

Make notes for yourself to keep you straight.
Sew with your best quarter inch and press very carefully as not to "curve" the strips.  Measure to ensure they are the proper and same width throughout.
You will make the B Side first.

Once again be careful with your pressing.
Pay close attention to the instruction for your sub cuts, especially the 2nd cut, as it will be different than prior Lemoyne cuts.
Right Handed

Left Handed
Then they get constructed the same way.
Trimmed down the same way.
Right Handed

Left Handed

Next, it is time to make the A side, and you will need to Fussy cut the Strip to get your Diamond.
Right Handed
Pay close attention to which strip you have towards you, it should be the wide one for your first cut.

For the 2nd, 3rd, etc. cuts you can just keep making your way across the strip.
Left handers will turn their strip over, but still have the widest strip towards themselves.

Left handers will work right to left.
Make sure you have the units oriented properly before stitching them into their units.

You will make the "triangles" by cutting your squares in half, 1/4" off center.
Make sure to place the Large and Small Triangles in the proper position.
Sew the Large Triangle on first.

Trim the dog ear off before placing on the small triangle.

Now you are ready for trimming and they get trimmed the same as the B Side.

Once you trim, you will want to sew them together, nesting the seams and matching that perfect point.  Pin, pin, pin!
Sew them into Halves using your best quarter inch seam.

Then blocks.
Pinning well.
Now you have perfect oversized blocks. Make sure to trim them down, lining up all the key points.
   Tada!

It's almost dinner here at the retreat, so I must get back at it!

Keep stitching,

Michelle
